Your Reputation Precedes You

Romans 16:19 But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to see clearly what is right and to stay innocent of any wrong.

Finlay Graham had a reputation as a preacher, a teacher and “race car driver” through the dangerous streets of Beirut. In Beirut traffic, he could get get through tight places while driving on the sidewalk, which was the practice of other Beirutis, to get around a tangled up mess of cars. His driver's reputation did not outweigh his abilities to teach at the Baptist Seminary in Beirut. He was also a church planter.

His reputation preceded him. Although he is no longer with us, he and all of us came to appreciate the God-given talents and abilities he had.

Do you ever wonder about your reputation? What kind of reputation do you have? What about some of these characteristics: integrity, honesty, trustworthy, goodness, kindness and Christlikeness? Are others glad on your behalf? My earthly father always told us not to do anything we would not be willing to put our name on. That has helped me all throughout my life.

Are we in any way bringing shame to the name of Jesus? If so we need to ask God to forgive us, cleanse us and make us more like Him? God, we ask that you would grant that our reputations would be pure like Jesus.
